Expansion Knights advance to Cup Final

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) The Vegas Golden Knights are going to the Stanley Cup Final - with a chip on their shoulder.

"Everybody on this team has something to prove," Ryan Reaves said. "We call ourselves `The Golden Misfits' for a reason. We're doing a good job of proving everybody wrong."

Reaves scored the winning goal, Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves and the Golden Knights beat the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 on Sunday to wrap up the Western Conference final in five games.

Swedes edge Swiss to defend worlds gold

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Sweden capped a victorious run through the ice hockey world championship by edging Switzerland 3-2 on Sunday in the final after a penalty shootout to successfully defend its title.

Filip Forsberg scored the decisive goal in the shootout to give Sweden a third world title in six years, and 11th overall.

Jon Cooper didn't blame Andrei Vasilevskiy for the Tampa Bay Lightning digging a deep hole early in the Eastern Conference final.

Alfredsson stays involved in retirement

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) Hours before his Swedish countrymen were to play for their second straight world championship, Daniel Alfredsson reflected on how his life has changed since he has become a hockey dad. Alfredsson headlined the group of eight 2018 inductees to the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame on the final day of competition in Copenhagen.

"You're never going to get the highs of playing in a world championship or especially the world championship final again," he said. "But I'm happy where I'm at."

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia (AP) Chicago Blackhawks veteran forward Marian Hossa says he's retiring because of health issues.

In an interview with the Slovak newspaper Novy Cas, Hossa says he's done playing hockey.

During a scrum behind Vegas' net with 2:34 left in the second period of the Golden Knights' 4-2 victory over Winnipeg on Wednesday night, Fleury reached over with his left hand and tickled the left ear of the Jets' unsuspecting Blake Wheeler .

Qatar helps keep DC subway open for fans

WASHINGTON (AP) Thanks to Qatar, hockey fans in the U.S. capital get an extra hour of subway service on the night of Game 4 of the Eastern Conference final between the Washington Capitals and Tampa Bay Lightning.

It costs $100,000 to keep the Metrorail system open for an additional 60 minutes past midnight. Metro eliminated late-night operating hours because of budget constraints.
