Indians beat Cubs but P Miller injured

CLEVELAND (AP) The Cleveland Indians might need to get along with reliever Andrew Miller for a bit.

Miller left Wednesday night's 4-1 win over the Chicago Cubs because of a tight left hamstring. He was set for an MRI on Thursday, and manager Terry Francona said the lefty had the same injury while pitching for Baltimore in 2014.

"He's had it before," Francona said. "The hope is, I think last time he said it was 3-4 days. That would really be the hope. We'll know a lot more tomorrow. And hopefully, that's all it is."

Acuna helps rally Braves in debut

CINCINNATI (AP) Prized prospect Ronald Acuna Jr. looked like a polished veteran.

The 20-year-old Acuna singled and scored the tying run in the eighth inning of his big league debut, and the Atlanta Braves went on to beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 Wednesday night.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) Jhoulys Chacin had walked three batters each of his last three outings, so the Brewers' veteran right-hander was surprised when the Kansas City Royals kept swinging early in the count.

They had no choice the way he was pounding the strike zone.

TORONTO (AP) After six home runs in his last seven games, it seems Mookie Betts' isn't impressing his teammates anymore.

"We don't care about Mookie, we care about the Bruins," Hanley Ramirez joked in the locker room after Betts' latest offensive outburst helped the Boston Red Sox snap their season-high three-game losing streak with a 4-3 over the Toronto Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

Verlander, Altuve lead Astros by Angels

HOUSTON (AP) Justin Verlander, Jose Altuve and the Houston Astros did enough to deny the Los Angeles Angels a three-game sweep.

Verlander pitched seven sharp innings, Altuve hit his first home run of the season and the Astros won 5-2 Wednesday, ending the Angels' road winning streak at a team record-tying 11 in a row.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Aaron Altherr came through in a clutch spot again.

Altherr hit a go-ahead three-run homer, Jake Arrieta outpitched Zack Greinke and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-3 Wednesday night.

After 3 Tommy Johns, Venters back in MLB

BALTIMORE (AP) Jonny Venters has made a successful return to the majors after enduring three Tommy John surgeries and a six-year absence.

Pitching for the Tampa Bay Rays in his first big league appearance since the 2012 NL wild-card game, Venters entered in the sixth inning against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night. He retired Chris Davis on a grounder , the only batter he faced.
